She was the daughter of Thomas Altman and Lucy Leigh.<ref group="census" name="fed1850" /> <ref group="census" name="fed1860" /> <ref group="census" name="fed1870" /> <ref group="census" name="fed1880" /> <ref group="histories" name="davidhickox" /> <ref group="books" name="Wiregrass Pioneers" /> They had twenty-one children, of whom apparently six died at birth or in infancy.<ref group="books" name="Wiregrass Pioneers" />
