Miss Josephine W. Edwards of 35 Fay-
ette st, Watertown, is the proud owner
of one of the most wonderful needle-
work copies of "The pillage of the Cas-
tle of Basil," an incident of Cromwell's
time. She is particularly proud of the
fact that her grandmother, Template:Has perons, living at 182 Church st. New-
ton, was the one who made the copy.
It is 4x5 feet, incased in a heavy gilt
frame and occupies a prominent place in
the hallway of the Edwards home.
There are 10 figures in the picture. The
copy was made in cross stich, with
silk, and required nine months of very
laborious and painstaking effort on the
part of Mrs Whiton.
 The colors were beautifully blended
and the whole effect pleasing to the eye.
The featuring are very clear, demon-
strating artistic ability as well as ex-
pertness in needlework on the part of
Mrs Whiton. The picture was made 63
years ago, and remained in the posses-
sion of Mrs Whiton up to a year ago,
when she presented it to her grand mother.
It is said that there is only one other
copy of this sort in the country, but
there are several in Europe. Mrs
Whiton was prompted to make the copy
from the fact that she was deeply in-
trested in English history at that time.
She was only 17 years old when she did
the work.
