| + | Miss {{has person|Josephine Whiton Edwards|Josephine W. Edwards}} of 35 Fay- |
| + | ette st, Watertown, is the proud owner |
| + | of one of the most wonderful needle- |
| + | work copies of "The pillage of the [[Castle of Basil|Cas-]] |
| + | [[Castle of Basil|tle of Basil]]," an incident of Cromwell's |
| + | time. She is particularly proud of the |
| + | fact that her grandmother, {{has perons|Josephine Hawes|alt=Mrs Ezra |
| + | Whiton}}, living at 182 Church st. New- |
| + | ton, was the one who made the copy. |
| + | It is 4x5 feet, incased in a heavy gilt |
| + | frame and occupies a prominent place in |
| + | the hallway of the Edwards home. |
| + | There are 10 figures in the picture. The |
| + | copy was made in cross stich, with |
| + | silk, and required nine months of very |
| + | laborious and painstaking effort on the |
| + | part of Mrs Whiton. |
| + | The colors were beautifully blended |
| + | and the whole effect pleasing to the eye. |
| + | The featuring are very clear, demon- |
| + | strating artistic ability as well as ex- |
| + | pertness in needlework on the part of |
| + | Mrs Whiton. The picture was made 63 |
| + | years ago, and remained in the posses- |
| + | sion of Mrs Whiton up to a year ago, |
| + | when she presented it to her grand mother. |
| + | It is said that there is only one other |
| + | copy of this sort in the country, but |
| + | there are several in Europe. Mrs |
| + | Whiton was prompted to make the copy |
| + | from the fact that she was deeply in- |
| + | trested in English history at that time. |
| + | She was only 17 years old when she did |
| + | the work. |
