  Miss {{has person|Josephine Whiton Edwards|Josephine W. Edwards}} of 35 Fay-
 +
ette st, Watertown, is the proud owner
 +
of one of the most wonderful needle-
 +
work copies of "The pillage of the [[Castle of Basil|Cas-]]
 +
[[Castle of Basil|tle of Basil]]," an incident of Cromwell's
 +
time.  She is particularly proud of the
 +
fact that her grandmother, {{has perons|Josephine Hawes|alt=Mrs Ezra
 +
Whiton}}, living at 182 Church st. New-
 +
ton, was the one who made the copy.
 +
It is 4x5 feet, incased in a heavy gilt
 +
frame and occupies a prominent place in
 +
the hallway of the Edwards home.
 +
There are 10 figures in the picture. The
 +
copy was made in cross stich, with
 +
silk, and required nine months of very
 +
laborious and painstaking effort on the
 +
part of Mrs Whiton.
 +
  The colors were beautifully blended
 +
and the whole effect pleasing to the eye.
 +
The featuring are very clear, demon-
 +
strating artistic ability as well as ex-
 +
pertness in needlework on the part of
 +
Mrs Whiton.  The picture was made 63
 +
years ago, and remained in the posses-
 +
sion of Mrs Whiton up to a year ago,
 +
when she presented it to her grand mother.
 +
It is said that there is only one other
 +
copy of this sort in the country, but
 +
there are several in Europe.  Mrs
 +
Whiton was prompted to make the copy
 +
from the fact that she was deeply in-
 +
trested in English history at that time.
 +
She was only 17 years old when she did
 +
the work.
