Not much is known about David's life prior to comeing to Georgia.  According to familiy histories, David and his brother traveled to Georgia from Connecticut to purchase lumber to sell back in Connecticut. During his visit David became quite ill with a fever, while his brother returned to Connecticut with the lumber.
