The following lists were abstractedfrom microfil located at the Georgia Department of Archives & History in Atlanta, Georgia.  THe re-organizaitonof the militia in the state of Georgia was vitally important for the protection of women, children and invalids living at home during the war years.  Govener Joseph Brown had insisted that the state needed protection and had continually attempted to provide state troops wich were, as soon as the were formed, taken inot the Confederate Army.  Since there was no homefront protection, Goveror Brown and the Georgia Legislature issued an order for statewide census wich would enable a re-organbization of the state militia.
